Alyson specializes in street design and planning for downtown multimodal networks and urban trails. Alyson has an interdisciplinary background in architecture, planning and landscape architecture, which gives her a keen eye to both detail and context when making decisions impacting streets. Most recently, she has developed street and trail design plans for downtowns in Austin, Mobile, Wichita, Tulsa, Rogers, and the trail and train-connected suburbs of greater Boston. Before joining Nelson\Nygaard, Alyson not only worked in civic landscape designs in Philadelphia, but she also helped plan the Neighborhood Bikeways protected bike lane system with the Active Transportation Alliance in Chicago. A regular speaker on design and safety issues, Alyson has recently presented at ITE, Velo-City, Rail-volution, Walk Bike Places, and the ASLA National Conference. As an outcome of the design development for the Poplar Parkway in Downtown Rogers, Arkansas, she has been collating research on the roles street trees play in safety and in buffering protected infrastructure.
